I have used these with Tomb Raider, unzip this into your Tombraid folder.
please email me with the glide version if your Voodoo(s) 2, 3, 4's now works with Tomb Raider 1 !
**note: in case you are wondering what happened to the glide2x.ovl that usually
accompanies the glide2x.dll well, it looks like it doesn't get installed
all the time by the voodoo(s) 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 installer.
So here it is if you wish to add it to your
c:\windows\system folder. Please let me know if this fixes anything for you
glide wise that is.

this old fart is running a P133 with 48MB RAM any ideas on the most
cost effective way to improve 3D graphics for TR1 (and Quake etc for that matter)

I agree with Robert,
except now that the Voodoo2 is only $50.00 {V2 1000 is $100.00}-- add one to your
P133 and it will restore higher resolutions and faster graphics
in video games {actually even the regular software you have!}
A single Voodoo2/V2 1000 will get you 800x600x16 and at least 30-90
frames with your P133. If you purchase two Voodoo2's/V2 1000's and
run them in SLI you'll be as fast as a TNT2 or Voodoo3 3500.
also you can expect to use 1024x768x16. So for cost effective-
ness. you'll be spending $100.00 instead of $170 to $250
to achieve almost the same results.
Hope this helps,
Dracman

hello again
following your advice I got myself a cheap Voodoo2 card; a 3D Blaster
from Creative labs. It's made a hell of a difference to stuff like Fifa
Soccer and the 3dfx stuff that came with it is pretty spectacular but Quake
and Tombraider are unchanged. Do I need to get hold of some patches or
different drivers from somewhere/ hope you don't mind be bothering you agin your
advice seemed pretty sound. feel free to ignore this if it's a pain

Hello,
Glad to help -- i learn stuff from these email sessions also ya know !
I couldn't get Quake II to run on my Voodoo2 until Quake II version 3.20!
I would crash out of Quake2 or the colors would really be messed up.
I couldn't go full screen at all if i even wished to play part way
(until it crashed).
I've never tried Quake. Have you checked out the Quake Web sites ?
okay lets do Tomb Raider 1.
first you require the 3Dfx version of Tomb Raider 1, its 1.08 meg
and you can download it from the EIDOS Web site.
OR if you have the two CD's that make up Tomb Raider Gold -- its
in a folder on the CD. So you are looking for the 3Dfx Tomb.exe
thats 1.08 meg and written especially for 3Dfx.
down in your c:\windows\system folder are some Glide drivers.
you need to copy Glide2x.ovl into your Tombraid folder.
you require the batch files from http://www.smokeypoint.com/3dfx.htm
(actually they're attached) but thats where they hangout.
put tomb3dfx.bat in the tombraid folder and to start Tomb Raider
just double click on the tomb3dfx.bat file.
When you get the Unfinished Business Levels (free) the same type
of thing applies, there is a 3Dfx Tombub.exe.
let me know how this goes.
Adventure on!

Thanks again; I have now got Q1 running on the Voodoo2 and it looks pretty
good. As far as TR1 goes, here in the UK the Gold double CD pack is in a
series called the Premier Collection and I followed your advice, copied the
tomb.exe file over from the 3dfx file. It's now running under 3dfx but the
colours have gone wrong. Any Ideas? Thanks again

or http://www.smokeypoint.com/uzi.htm

unzip this into your Tombraid folder.
double-click the Tomb3dfx.bat
this will set up the colors of the
Tomb Raider as processed by the Voodoo2/V2 1000
and then run Tomb.exe

Q. Can I run Tomb Raider 1 with Voodoo5 in glide?
A. FROM THE REVEREND (and Kudos to Dracman of Smokeypoint!)
I downloaded a zip from here http://www.smokeypoint.com/3dfx.htm . You
shouldn't use the tomb.exe but the batch file to launch the game. Using the
batch file allowed me to play the game on my V5. The key to toggle AA is F3
and it works. Also, the tomb.exe from the zip above is the Rush-specific
one, not the original V.Graphics one. But you're right about FSAA however
(unfortunately). If I enable FSAA (whether 2x or 4x), the game would lock up
a second or two into the game. Disable FSAA and the game runs fine. One
thing though is that the F3 AA key does work and things do get AA'ed... and
it looks a ton better (especially Lara :-). Also, the F2 key >does toggle
on/off framerate.Use the batch file.
--------------------------------
this IS the breath taking 3Dfx of a voodoo1 or voodoo2 -{be sure and select "Mip mapped" from the menu ring}
however; if you've upgraded from a Voodoo2 and have many many savegames like I did, well...
forget about it ! 8^) - your Voodoo2 savegames will NOT work with the RUSH Tomb.exe
you'll have to start Tomb Raider 1/Gold over again.
The 3Dfx Tombub.exe savegames still work, select "Mip mapped" and enjoy the Breath taking 3Dfx graphics !
The following bat(ch) files V5Tomb3dfx.bat and V5Tombub.bat were
the ones I used to start Tomb Raider 1 and Unfinished Business with
my voodoo3 3000 when the driver version as pictured here used to read Banshee.
I am currently trying to find out what the set commands for the new voodoo5
drivers are {for the Dos4gw.exe enviroment}
if you check your c:\windows\system\ 3dfx16vs.vxd and 3dfx32vs.drv by
right clicking the file and then clicking on properties,
click the version tab and then the product name AND you find something
different..... please email me with what you DO find. 8^)

Some info on overclocking, just for hell of it.
To overclock the Voodoo 5500, you will need to search for the following registry branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\3Dfx Interactive\3dfx Tools\Installed\Tools\{AB040305-8AA1-11D2-8DD1-00104BB5EAD6}
Set the "CompleteRegistration" variable equal to 1, restart your PC and you will see overclocking options in the properties page.
