Galleon is a new game engine: Toby Gard writes,

they are incomparable in respect of engine technology. " Toby Gard was responsible for the design and original concept of Tomb Raider.
Toby was the lead graphic artist for the game and was responsible for the creation of Miss Lara Croft.
Toby and Tomb Raider's lead programmer Paul Douglas, packed up and left Core Design 3 months
after completing the original Tomb Raider.
Toby and Paul then set up their own company - Confounding-Factor in April 1997.
